Aggro Zen

A short story of pre-visualization.

Aggro-
According to the Urban Dictionary this is
a term that has been used for decades by surfers and other water-headed types to describe someone who is overly and unnecessarily aggressive, competitive, or asinine whilst in the water. prolonged exposure to the aggro can ruin even the best session, so "deal" with them immediately (read: choke with your leash then return to your state of zen-like calm once they are dead)

I like the image of chilled out surfers
choking
aggressive surfers with their leash
 and then
calmly going back to a zen state with the waves…
the breath of the planet…

I recall a childhood memory of Mr. Dooley,
our family protector,
a spirit animal of German Shepherd - Collie decent
always with us, watchful, in the yard.

It is summer.

Mr. Dooley, ever vigilant, resting in the shade,
brother in the sandbox, nation building.
Upside down, I rest in the tree above them.
enter:
a particular neighborhood cat

this cat
taunted us daily,
pacing and calling out from the fence top.
nameless, testing, marking, rattling its tail

several days passed in this way…

It was hot.
Texas Hot.

The particular cat sauntering along the fence line
measuring;
marking the boundary.
Mounting the fence,
walking the usual path
calling out..

On the eighth day,
Mr. Dooley rose stretching his body…
he walked to the fence
and
In a singular, elegant gesture cleared the top
grabbing the cat by the head as he passed
one smooth motion of his head upon landing,
cat neck breaking,
head releasing;
cat body suspended weightless in backward rotation

and Mr. Dooley…

bouncing back up
over the fence

to lay down in the shade of his favorite tree
ever watchful
as if
nothing
happened.

and that

is how I remember the zen duet with a particular cat.

Post Dogmatist Rules

Post Dogmatist rule #23

Shut up and Paint.

If you find yourself unable to paint. Read the Manifesto below and take your dogma for a walk.

POST-DOGMATIST MANIFESTO

(rough draft recorded by Patrick O'Kelly)
WE BELIEVE IN THE TRUE DOGMA,

AN UNLEASHED DOGMA,

ONE THAT WE ARE FREE OF CARING FOR.

A DOGMA THAT BARKS FEROCIOUSLY AT INTRUDING DOGMAS AND "ISMS" BUT IS ALSO TAME ENOUGH TO BE RIDDEN BY A CHILD.

A HOUSE BROKEN DOGMA.

WE BELIEVE IN A GUARD DOGMA THAT WILL RIP TO THE BONE ALL HISTORIANS AND CRITICS THAT WOULD TRY TO HARM ITS FREEORS.

IT KNOWS ITS PLACE.

IT WILL NOT ENTER IN THE CHURCH OR SCHOOL.

IF OUR FREE OF DOGMA/DOGMA FALLS INTO THE WRONG HANDS AND IS CORRUPTED OR IF SOMEONE TRIES TO DOGMATIZE OUR DOGMA OR IT OTHERWISE BECOMES A THREAT TO THE ARTISTS COMMUNITY, IT SHOULD BE GATHERED UP BY THE DOGMA CATCHERS AND PUT TO SLEEP.( 1987 )

Sculpture | Bob Rizzo - worth a look.

Sculpture | Bob Rizzo

"Over the past few years, I have created a series of assemblage sculptures that share certain aesthetic qualities based on my desire to engage the viewer, encouraging them to look for meaning in the various attachments or the "other" story of the objects. The potential for these deeper-seated interpretations points not only to my interest in tribal art but also references the assemblage of Dada and Surrealism, and the derivative nature of contemporary pop culture. "

Unseen Occurence #252 ~ Baby Shower

I believe there are no words to describe universe without limiting it.

Words are bound by culture.

Numbers and art transcend cultural form.

Sound and light can be described using numbers and when tallied and translated, the result can register as cold, void.

Expressing experience through waveform manipulation is still the simplest and most direct for me.

Apology

It felt so good to yell about the injustice-

I didn't think for a moment about you sitting beside me feeling like it was directed at you until you rose rapidly from your comfortable pose.

I had relinquished control of the angry mare and she was crashing around the paddock.

One hoof jammed into the water trough.
The fresh, sullied by the muck festering behind the shoe.
An avalanche of anatomy thrashing to the sawdust and powdered earth.

Too late, she struck her cheek on the gate.
Wild eyes calmed by blood and bone,
Marrow loosed into muscle.

Nauseous Realization...
That trusted soul was come to clear the spent flesh and dung.

Leg lame, she struggles to stand.

Walking? Where? And why.

The furrier is gone.

Shuffleton's Barbershop, "A Way Back Home"

A Way Back Home - About the Movie | Hallmark Movie Channel

http://www.hallmarkmoviechannel.com/hmc/awaybackhome/video/Preview/AWayBackHome

Filmed under the working title "Shuffleton's Barbershop" after the Norman Rockwell painting that inspired it... I had a great time on this project, and hope you all enjoy watching the story unfold. If you have been around the independent film scene or professional theatre in NC, you will certainly recognize some of the names, faces, and locales in this family friendly slice of the American storybook that has become part of the Hallmark tradition.

New Year, New Format

jennimusing is now on Tumblr

available at Delurk Gallery though January 2013
Rock Drawing #J-0619
Why? I'm combining Musing is Free and Art About Town into a single feed and establishing an easier way to update folks on my visual artwork specifically. Over the years, I've started several blogs and need to bring my various feeds into focus.

Delurk Gallery is now a full-time preoccupation that necessitates this change, so Musing is Free and Art About Town will become a single personal point of view blog (musing is free) covering all sorts of creative expression and the new Tumblr feed will be dedicated to studio art, specifically my own.

I'll be interlinking these blogs with each other and with other relevant websites and blogs so please continue to check in to see what's happening and please, don't hesitate to comment!

National Delurking week is January 14-21 so chime in!

Strings detached

Spring brought a rich uninterrupted carpet of garden thyme to my doorstep, but what caused the vaguely rectangular hole? Well, I know, but I'd rather muse about some mysterious occurrence an unexplained core sampling of the herb bed by unseen mischievous "doers."
I pondered this off and on over the summer and now it's October. All that pondering is beginning to produce results.
Here is the first.
